What this tool does
Check whether a couch fits through a doorway with a simplified 2D pivot model of its end profile. SIMPLIFIED 2D MODEL: real fits also depend on hallway width, ceiling height, turns at the door, removable legs/feet and cushions. A 'fits on the pivot' result means it is worth attempting with care, not a guarantee.
How to use the Couch Fit Calculator
- Enter or select door opening width in in.
- Enter or select door opening height in in.
- Enter or select couch depth (front to back) in in.
- Enter or select couch height (floor to top of back) in in.
- Enter or select couch length in in.
- Read the calculated result; change any measurement to compare alternatives.
Formula
Simplified 2D pivot model: the couch end profile (depth × height) rotates in the plane of the doorway. Straight fit needs depth ≤ door width and height ≤ door height; pivot fit needs the profile diagonal √(depth² + height²) ≤ door height and the shorter profile side ≤ door width.

Frequently asked questions
If its depth is under 32 in and its back height under the door height, it goes straight in. Deeper couches can still pivot if the diagonal of the depth × height profile is shorter than the door height — this tool checks exactly that.
Stand the couch on end near the door and rotate ('pivot') it through the opening so the back and seat pass at an angle. The limiting measurement becomes the diagonal of the couch's end profile versus the door height.
Door width and height (frame to frame, not the slab), couch length, depth and back height with legs removed, plus hallway width and ceiling height at any turn.
Remove the couch feet/legs, take cushions off, remove the door from its hinges (gains about an inch), and take off door stops. Each is cheaper than a failed delivery.
If the profile diagonal exceeds the door height and the couch cannot stand up in the hallway (low ceiling or tight turn), look at windows, balcony hoists or a different piece — forcing it damages both couch and frame.
