What this tool does

Calculate slugging percentage and isolated power from singles, doubles, triples and home runs. Walks, hit-by-pitches and sacrifices are not at bats and add no total bases.

How to use the Slugging Percentage Calculator

  1. Enter or select at bats.
  2. Enter or select singles.
  3. Enter or select doubles.
  4. Enter or select triples.
  5. Enter or select home runs.
  6. Read the calculated result; change any measurement to compare alternatives.

Formula

total bases = singles + 2×doubles + 3×triples + 4×home runs; SLG = total bases ÷ at bats; ISO = SLG − batting average

Frequently asked questions

League average is around .400–.420. Sluggers post .500+, and .600+ is a historic power season. Light-hitting positions can survive near .350 if the on-base skills are strong.

Batting average counts each hit once. Slugging weights hits by bases, up to 4 for a home run, so its ceiling is 4.000 — a player who homered every at bat would slug 4.000 while batting 1.000.

ISO = SLG − AVG strips out singles, leaving only extra-base impact. .140 is about average, .200+ is real power, and below .100 marks a contact-first hitter.

No — walks are not at bats and earn no total bases, so they leave SLG unchanged. They raise OBP (and therefore OPS) instead.

Total bases is a counting total that grows with playing time; slugging divides it by at bats, making it a rate stat you can compare between a part-time and everyday player.
