Frequently asked questions
Against a dual-type defender weak to the same type twice — for example Ice against a Dragon/Flying type like Dragonite: 2× (Dragon) × 2× (Flying) = 4×. The reverse (double resist) gives 0.25×.
There are eight immunities: Normal and Fighting into Ghost, Ghost into Normal, Electric into Ground, Ground into Flying, Poison into Steel, Psychic into Dark, and Dragon into Fairy. Any one of them zeroes the whole damage calculation, even on a dual-type defender.
Generation VI (X/Y) rebalanced Steel when Fairy was added: Steel stopped resisting Ghost and Dark but gained a Fairy resistance and a super-effective hit on Fairy. This calculator uses the current (Gen VI+) chart.
No — same-type attack bonus (1.5×) is a separate multiplier applied by the games on top of type effectiveness. This tool shows the chart effectiveness only.
Steel paired with Fairy or Flying is famously strong because Steel carries 10 resistances plus a Poison immunity. The chart, not reputation, is what this calculator applies — try Steel/Fairy as the defender to see its profile.
