What this tool does

Score a men's decathlon with the official World Athletics formulas for all ten events. Men's outdoor decathlon tables (World Athletics Scoring Tables for Combined Events). Performances at or beyond the zero-point B score 0 for that event. Hand-timing adjustments used in official combined-events scoring are not applied.

How to use the Decathlon Points Calculator

  1. Enter or select 100 m (seconds).
  2. Enter or select long jump (meters).
  3. Enter or select shot put (meters).
  4. Enter or select high jump (meters).
  5. Enter or select 400 m (seconds).
  6. Enter or select 110 m hurdles (seconds).
  7. Enter or select discus throw (meters).
  8. Enter or select pole vault (meters).
  9. Enter or select javelin throw (meters).
  10. Enter or select 1500 m (seconds, e.g. 270 = 4:30).
  11. Read the calculated result; change any measurement to compare alternatives.

Formula

World Athletics scoring: track events score = floor(A × (B − performance)^C); field events score = floor(A × (performance − B)^C), with jumps measured in centimetres inside the formula and each event's published A, B, C constants (e.g. 100 m: A 25.4347, B 18, C 1.81)

Worked example

For decathlon points calculator, the following measurements illustrate the exact method: 100 m (seconds): 11; Long jump (meters): 7; Shot put (meters): 14; High jump (meters): 1.95; 400 m (seconds): 49; 110 m hurdles (seconds): 14.5; Discus throw (meters): 42; Pole vault (meters): 4.6; Javelin throw (meters): 55; 1500 m (seconds, e.g. 270 = 4:30): 270.

Frequently asked questions

About 975 points: 25.4347 × (18 − 10.50)^1.81 ≈ 975.6, floored to 975. The World Athletics worked example of 10.40 s = 999 points checks out against the same formula.

The constants were calibrated so comparable world-class performances score similarly in every event — a 9,000-point decathlon means averaging 900 per event, and the world record stands just above 9,100.

The published B constants for jumps (220 for long jump, 75 for high jump, 100 for pole vault) are written in centimetres, so performances are converted before scoring. Throws and track events use metres and seconds.

No. A performance slower or shorter than the event's B zero-point scores exactly 0 for that event — it cannot subtract from the total.

Not in this tool: the women's heptathlon uses a different seven events with its own published constants. This calculator covers the men's decathlon only, so the totals stay exact rather than approximate.
