What this tool does
The Lawn Mowing Cost Calculator prices a lawn from your own per-1,000-sq-ft rate with a minimum charge, and estimates mowing time from deck width and ground speed at 80% field efficiency (turns, overlap, trimming passes).
How to use the Lawn Mowing Cost Calculator
- Enter the lawn area.
- Enter YOUR rate per 1,000 sq ft — there is no 'standard price' built in.
- Set your minimum charge for small lawns.
- Optionally set deck width and speed for the time estimate.
Formula
Charge = max(minimum, Area ÷ 1,000 × rate); Time = Area ÷ (deck ft × speed mph × 5,280 × 0.8)

Frequently asked questions
That is your business decision — this tool deliberately contains no 'average price'. Enter the rate per 1,000 sq ft that covers your fuel, time and equipment, plus a minimum so small lawns stay profitable.
With a 42 in deck at 3 mph and normal turns, about 55 minutes of cutting. Walking a 21 in mower at 2.5 mph takes roughly 2.4 hours for the same lawn.
Loading, travel and unloading cost the same for a tiny lawn as a big one. Most operators set a floor (often $40–60) so small jobs still pay.
Divide your per-acre price by 43.56 to get the per-1,000-sq-ft rate: $390 per acre ≈ $9 per 1,000 sq ft. The tool also shows the per-acre equivalent of any price.
Edging, string trimming, blowing clippings, gate/fence difficulty, slope and overgrowth surcharges. Build them into your rate or minimum rather than surprising the customer.
