What this tool does

Find your half birthday — the date exactly six calendar months after your birthday — its weekday, and how many days away it is. A half birthday is six calendar months after the birthday, not half of 365 days: depending on which months it spans, it is 181–184 days later. August 31 birthdays halve to the last day of February; February 29 birthdays halve to August 29.

How to use the Half Birthday Calculator

  1. Enter or select date of birth (yyyy-mm-dd).
  2. Read the calculated result; change any measurement to compare alternatives.

Formula

half birthday = the birthday date plus 6 calendar months (month-end birthdays clamp to the target month's last day); the 'next' half birthday is the first such date on or after today

Frequently asked questions

Six calendar months after your birthday. A June 15 birthday has a December 15 half birthday; a November 2 birthday has a May 2 half birthday the following year. The tool returns the next one on or after today.

Not quite. Six calendar months span 181 to 184 days depending on the months involved (February shortens the span). Splitting 365 days in half would land a day or two away from the conventional half birthday.

Six months after August 31 would be February 31, which does not exist, so it clamps to the last day of February — February 28, or February 29 in a leap year. The same rule applies to other month-end birthdays.

A leap-day birthday halves to August 29 — exactly six calendar months later — in every year, including years when the birthday itself is observed on February 28 or March 1.

Common reasons: summer parties for children whose birthday falls in the school holidays or near Christmas, and a simple mid-year milestone. Schools and camps often use the half birthday as the celebration date for winter-born kids.
