What this tool does

Count the exact days left until any date — with weeks, the weekday it falls on, and a year/month/day countdown breakdown. Counts whole calendar days from your device's current local date (today) to the target date, using UTC calendar days so daylight saving never shifts the result. Today itself is not counted: a target tomorrow is 1 day away. Past targets return a negative count.

How to use the Days Until Calculator

  1. Enter or select target date (yyyy-mm-dd).
  2. Read the calculated result; change any measurement to compare alternatives.

Formula

days remaining = (target UTC midnight − today's UTC midnight) / 86,400,000; weeks and days split the absolute day count by 7; the calendar countdown adds whole calendar months first, then leftover days
target
Target date (YYYY-MM-DD)

Counts whole calendar days from your device's current local date (today) to the target date, using UTC calendar days so daylight saving never shifts the result. Today itself is not counted: a target tomorrow is 1 day away. Past targets return a negative count.

Frequently asked questions

It is the exact number of whole calendar days between today (your device's current local date) and the target date. A target tomorrow shows 1, a target today shows 0, and a past target shows a negative number.

Neither endpoint is double-counted: the result is the plain difference between the two dates, the same convention as days-between-dates. If an event starts at a specific time of day, the remaining hours are not shown — this is a date countdown, not a live ticking timer.

The worked example is computed from a fixed default target so the page is stable, but the live calculator always counts from the real current date, so the days remaining drop by one each day until the target arrives.

Days remaining is one total. The calendar countdown expresses the same span the way people say it — whole years and months first, then leftover days (for example '2 months, 5 days') — which depends on the actual month lengths in between.

Enter this year's date for the event. If it has already passed this year, enter next year's date instead; the weekday output tells you which day of the week it falls on.

No. The count is done in UTC calendar days from date-only inputs, so a 23- or 25-hour local day around a DST change never adds or drops a day.
